Practice Administrator Job

Overview:

Old Pueblo Anesthesia (OPA), a private practice group of 47 anesthesiologists, is searching for a Practice Administrator. Reporting to the Executive Committee, the Practice Administrator is responsible for the administrative operations and financial functions of the Old Pueblo Anesthesia group.

We are a physician-owned anesthesiology practice that has served Tucson, Arizona for 44 years. OPA has established a reputation on the both local and national level for leadership in anesthesia and providing superior patient care. We pride ourselves in maintaining and improving this reputation. We are looking for a dynamic leader who can direct daily operations and design, implement, and manage our business strategy to help us achieve continued financial growth and company excellence.

Essential Responsibilities:

    1. Financial Management duties include budgeting and financial reporting, review of payroll and required reporting, accounts payable, and income distribution.
    2. Manages revenue cycle process. Monitors payer activity, develops monthly accounts receivable reporting package, and works directly with payers and collection agency to assure collections remain within acceptable benchmarks.
    3. Integral member of the business development team. Completing the risk analysis on new business and payer contracts, advising the EC regarding risk and return. Assists in development and implementation of strategic plans for new practice expansion opportunities and sites.
    4. Participates in the negotiations for insurance and hospital contracts. Cultivates and maintains relationships with local and regional insurance carriers. Participates in the negotiation of payer, hospital and other strategic partner agreements.
    5. Maintains knowledge and tracks performance of hospital contractual requirements (quality, financial, satisfaction) and assists with renewal or modifications.
    6. Monitors benefit programs. Liaison between pension administrator, benefit administrators and corporate insurance administrator.
    7. Ensures commitment to and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations across the organization. Maintains ongoing knowledge of changes in laws and regulations and advises Executive Committee accordingly.
    8. Develops and maintains relationships with hospital administrators, leadership administrators at ambulatory surgery centers, and physician shareholders in the practice.
    9. Prepares quality assurance reporting, including AQI and MIPS.
    10. Responsible for all aspects of managing and leading office staff including: interviewing,
      hiring, training, developing, directing work and processes, managing performance, recognizing, and rewarding employees. Creates and helps to conduct year-end office employee evaluations, and helps to determine any potential raises, bonuses, and promotions.
    11. Attends and facilitates meetings of the Executive Committee and quarterly Shareholders’ meetings.
    12. Helps to develop strategic plans and objectives.
    13. Leads by fostering a culture of transparency and respect.

Required Skills, Experience and Other Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in all Revenue Cycle functions including: Collection/Payment Recognition,
  • Accounting/Finance, and Insurance Contracting
  • Ability to build productive relationships across various levels of our corporation.
  • Expertise in contract negotiations, compliance, and business development
  • Maintains open lines of respectful communication and positive working relationships with staff, physicians, and key system partners.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks
  • Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Strong interpersonal, project management and mentoring skills.
  • Ability to make decisions in a rapidly changing, professional, service-oriented environment
  • Maintains the strictest confidentiality
  • Previous healthcare experience, including experience with practice management

Preferred Experience or Skills:

  • Master’s degree in business or health care administration preferred
  • Prior management experience with a physician practice, particularly an anesthesia group

Work Environment: Centrally located office consisting of 13 staff.
